Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

APS is committed to a culturally responsive workplace which enables us to build and sustain a diverse workforce, champion inclusive curriculum, and to close achievement and opportunities gaps for all students and staff.

Arlington Public Schools believes that learning and working in diverse settings has many positive impacts on students, educators, and the community it supports.  Exposure to diverse cultures, backgrounds, and perspectives helps students develop a full understanding of and appreciation for the global community.  Diverse school environments foster inclusivity and work to create and maintain a sense of belonging for all students, staff, parents, and caregivers.  It is our ambition to ensure that all students see themselves represented in positive ways throughout our curriculum, among their peers, and those who support their education and social development.  Additionally, we will act in ways to ensure that educational opportunities are made readily available to all students, regardless of their socioeconomic background, ethnicity, or other demographic factors.

The School Board Equity policy (A-30) includes governance in four key areas: Governance Equity Practices; Educational Equity Practices; Workforce Equity Practices; and Operational Equity Practices.
