  • Today author Scott Simon is visiting DHMS today. If you are bringing your 4th period class, please arrive to the auditorium promptly after you take attendance. If as a student, you arranged already to attend as an in-schol field trip, report to Room 129 for 4th period. If you pre-ordered a signed copy of the book, it will be available at dismissal time in Room 129.
  • Attention DHMS Model UN Club! We will meet today in Mrs. Carlson’s room to prepare for WOLFMUN and other Spring Model UN Conferences. Please bring your forms and be ready to get to work! Both new and experienced members are welcome to join.
  • Three announcements from the library:
    • Pre-orders for Kate Messner’s book are due to Ms. Shanker today! If you forgot to bring your money but still want a book, just stop by the library to let Ms. Shanker know which books you want.
    • TAB meets tomorrow in the library. All are welcome.
    • If you are participating in VJAS, the first draft of your paper is due on Thursday. If you want to learn how to do your citations, stop by the library after school today or during Phoenix Time on Thursday.
  • Are you interested in bikes? Phoenix Bikes is coming to DHMS! On Tuesday, January 21, Mr. Duran will be *back* at all grade level lunches. Stop by his table to learn more!
  • Teachers, the Science project boards will be on display in the library all day today if you want to bring your classes to see them.
  • Attention students, on error, we neglected to announce last week’s Breath of Fresh Air Winners on Friday. Please join me in congratulating the following students for their wonderful job: Respecting Yourself, Respecting Others and Respecting Your Environment!

  • Congratulations to our fabulous teachers: Ms. Japec and Ms. Tosner! Your students nominated you for Teacher Tuesday. One student shared: Ms. Japec makes lessons fun, and cares about everyone in the classroom. Another student shared: Ms. Tosner is very helpful and encouraging in class. She provides us with fun assignments that are interesting.

  • Congratulations to all students who participated in the First Annual Dorothy Hamm Science Fair. Last night you made up proud by explaining your proudly explaining your science experiments to community members while showcasing your data analysis on your tri-fold boards. To all students and staff- if you are available to visit the library during 7th or 8th grade Phoenix Time, grade-level science fair galleries will be set up. Student scientists will be presenting their work and available to answer any questions you may have. Science fair participants, please check in to Phoenix Time and then report to the library.

  • Do you think you know a lot of fun interesting facts about the world and all kinds of subjects? Are you good at using logic to solve problems? Do you win Trivia Games ALL THE TIME!!? Come learn how to put those cool skills to the test in a national competition! Join Ms. Partington in the library this Tuesday, January 14th, 2:30 – 3:00, to find out about the American Scholastic Achievement League and their national competition.
  • Congratulations to our wonderful teachers: Ms. Palermo and Ms. Foley for being nominated by their students for Teacher Tuesday! One student shared this about Ms. Palermo: She is a teacher who pushes you to do your best and she is a great teacher in general. Another student shared that Ms. Foley gives us great projects and lets us have fun always! Congratulations Ms. Palermo and Ms. Foley.
  • Attention all 6th, 7th, and 8th graders: Join after school bike club! Over 12 weeks you’ll learn bike mechanics, build your own bike, and ride it home for free! You’ll have fun getting your hands dirty while learning practical skills and getting to know new students. Are you interested? Today, Mr. Duran from Phoenix Bikes will be at all three lunches to give you more information on our very first Dorothy Hamm Phoenix Bikes Earn a Bike program.

  • Congratulations to our teachers, Ms. Myers and Ms. Casteel! Our students and families have chosen them as our terrific Tuesday Teachers. One student said, “Ms. Casteel always comes up with fun activities to teach us Science. She is funny and motivates us to learn and do the best we can.” Another student shared that “She always slows down and adds fun activities to our classroom. She is very good at letting us take breaks while still learning. The class work she gives doesn’t make it so hard you can’t do it but not so easy that you don’t learn. She is so helpful and makes sure everyone is successful.” Ms. Myers and Ms. Casteel come to the office to get your Phoenix wings picture!
  • A message from Mrs. Ducassoux: any band students performing the brass fanfare for the winter concert should report to the band room for a brief practice.

Ms. Sandersons’s students said: “She always puts back feed back giving the positives and negatives when handing back out papers or projects.” Ms. Westcott’s students said: “She is very patient and nice. She is personally one of my favorite teachers. She also gives us lots of privileges. On my first day I saw how she acted and she is still very nice and energetic. I always look forward to going to TA in the morning.”

One of Mr. Redican’s students shared: “Mr.Redican is always there for me. He always believes in me. I know I can trust him because of how experienced he is. He always has the kind solution and not a right solution.” Ms. Azzara’s student shared: “I had a hard time keeping up with my work despite the extra time I was given. She always gave a second chance to work on my studies and checked up on me often. When I got an overall bad grade in 1st quarter.   • Congratulations to our two wonderful Tuesday Teachers! Nathan Garvin and Whitney Field were nominated by their students. Nathan Garvin is one of our sixth grade English teachers. Students said the following about Mr. Garvin: He adds fun into his activities to keep us interested. He is very nice to me and my class. He makes us have so much fun and enjoy class. He is so cool about helping us. He comes up with the best topics to write about. That class I am always the most excited for. That class is the one I would take every single period. He is an amazing teacher! He makes everything we do fun and exciting. Whitney Field is another English teacher in our sixth grade. Students said this about Ms. Field: She is helpful and always creates a good environment in the classroom. She is always very supportive and if you are feeling down, she lifts your spirits right back up! She is very nice and supportive. Congratulations!
