  • Congratulations to our teachers, Ms. Myers and Ms. Casteel! Our students and families have chosen them as our terrific Tuesday Teachers. One student said, “Ms. Casteel always comes up with fun activities to teach us Science. She is funny and motivates us to learn and do the best we can.” Another student shared that “She always slows down and adds fun activities to our classroom. She is very good at letting us take breaks while still learning. The class work she gives doesn’t make it so hard you can’t do it but not so easy that you don’t learn. She is so helpful and makes sure everyone is successful.” Ms. Myers and Ms. Casteel come to the office to get your Phoenix wings picture!
  • A message from Mrs. Ducassoux: any band students performing the brass fanfare for the winter concert should report to the band room for a brief practice.

  • Attention 7th and 8th graders. The link to sign up for the FIRST Dorothy Hamm Science Fair will close this Friday. Sign up right away. Our Science Fair will take place at our school on Thursday January 16 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm.
  • Attention 8th graders: If you plan to run a writing workshop during the authors night celebration on Thursday, please report to a mandatory lunch meeting today in Ms. Juengst’s room #325. We will be reviewing the expectations and directions for each station. (please repeat)

  • Congratulations to our fabulous teachers: Beth Sanderson and Julie Westcott! Your students nominated you for Teacher Tuesday. They wanted to honor your hard work and dedication. Ms. Sandersons’s students said: “She always puts back feed back giving the positives and negatives when handing back out papers or projects.” Ms. Westcott’s students said: “She is very patient and nice. She is personally one of my favorite teachers. She also gives us lots of privileges. On my first day I saw how she acted and she is still very nice and energetic. I always look forward to going to TA in the morning.”
  • Congratulations to the following orchestra students who made the Arlington Junior Honors Orchestra: Satya N., Audrey P., and Elliana S. We also had seven students make the Arlington Honors Orchestra: Scarlett B., Ryan C., Sam J., Brandon K., Lola R., Evie S., and Nora S. We are so proud of these orchestra students who will be representing DHMS in these countywide groups!

This holiday season, Phoenix Raising Others through Service (PROS) and Kindness Club are collecting food and coat donations to serve our neighbors in need. Bring your donations to the front of the main office starting November 18 until December 13. The foods needed most are: canned tuna, canned soup, canned vegetables, peanut butter, cooking oil, low sugar cereal.   • Congratulations to our fabulous teachers, Matt Redican and Madison Azzara, who were nominated by their students for Teacher Tuesday. One of Mr. Redican’s students shared: “Mr.Redican is always there for me. He always believes in me. I know I can trust him because of how experienced he is. He always has the kind solution and not a right solution.” Ms. Azzara’s student shared: “I had a hard time keeping up with my work despite the extra time I was given. She always gave a second chance to work on my studies and checked up on me often. When I got an overall bad grade in 1st quarter. She reassured me that there’s a new quarter.” Mr. Redican and Ms. Azzara, come down to get your Phoneix wings picture with Ms. Kopiak today!

  • Congratulations to our two wonderful Tuesday Teachers! Nathan Garvin and Whitney Field were nominated by their students. Nathan Garvin is one of our sixth grade English teachers. Students said the following about Mr. Garvin: He adds fun into his activities to keep us interested. He is very nice to me and my class. He makes us have so much fun and enjoy class. He is so cool about helping us. He comes up with the best topics to write about. That class I am always the most excited for. That class is the one I would take every single period. He is an amazing teacher! He makes everything we do fun and exciting. Whitney Field is another English teacher in our sixth grade. Students said this about Ms. Field: She is helpful and always creates a good environment in the classroom. She is always very supportive and if you are feeling down, she lifts your spirits right back up! She is very nice and supportive. Congratulations! Ms. Field and Mr. Garvin come on down to show your Phoenix pride! We want you to pose with your wings.
