Good morning, DHMS Families,

I hope this message finds you enjoying the brisk (and downright cold) weather. I must say, I’m thrilled that the days are getting a little longer – it gives us a hint of Spring!

The Administrators and I are making short videos, weekly, that we share with students on Fridays (mid-day) through Canvas Announcements.  Our goal is to acclimate students to our faces and voices, as well as some of our school goals.  We will, occasionally spotlight a different location in the building – so that students get the chance to see their spaces!

Don’t forget that we have lots of brand-new books to lend to students – the DHMS library is doing an amazing job of circulating these.  Just have your youngster put in their order and pick up on Mondays and Thursdays at the DHMS Front Door.  Shout outs to Ms. Shanker who has been doing a “Pop-Up Library” at Rocky Run Park every other week, for kids who live in the Rosslyn area. Look for the Monday SchoolTalk message that I send for more information.

These last couple of weeks students have taken the Math Inventory and the Reading Inventory.  These are our Mid-year Assessments for reading and math.  Please encourage students to complete these important assessments.  Reach out to the math or English teacher if you have questions.

• Thursday, January 28, 7:00 PM, Rising 6th Grade Middle School Information Night.  This is an opportunity to learn a little about the middle school philosophy, who we are at DHMS, and meet the counselor for our rising sixth graders.
• Friday, January 29, Last Day of Second Quarter
• Monday, February 1, 6:00 PM, Parent Chat – in Spanish
• Tuesday, February 2 – Wednesday, February 3, Teachers teach from our building
• Thursday, February 4 – Friday, February 5 – All Secondary Schools Asynchronous Learning; professional learning for teachers and classroom setup

Buenos días, familias de DHMS.

Espero que este mensaje los encuentre disfrutando del clima fresco (y casi frío). Debo decir que estoy encantada de que los días se vayan alargando poco a poco, ¡da un toque primaveral!

Los administradores y yo estamos haciendo semanalmente videos cortos, que compartimos con los estudiantes los viernes (mediodía) a través de anuncios de Canvas. Nuestro objetivo es aclimatar a los estudiantes a nuestras caras y voces, así como a algunas de nuestras metas escolares. De vez en cuando, destacaremos una ubicación diferente en el edificio, ¡para que los estudiantes tengan la oportunidad de ver los espacios diferentes!

No olvide que tenemos muchos libros nuevos para que los estudiantes los puedan sacar prestados; la biblioteca de DHMS está haciendo un trabajo increíble al distribuirlos. Simplemente haga que su hijo haga su reserva y lo recoja los lunes y jueves en la puerta principal de DHMS. Gracias a la Sra. Shanker que ha estado haciendo una “Biblioteca móvil” en Rocky Run Park cada dos semanas, para los niños que viven en el área de Rosslyn. Estén atentos al mensaje que envío los lunes en el Monday SchoolTalk para obtener más información.

El folleto de esta semana es breve: solo un par de recordatorios sobre los próximos eventos. Estén atentos y no duden en comunicarse con nosotros si tiene preguntas.

• Lunes, 25 de enero, 9:00 a.m., Charla con los padres – tema: Planificación escolar
• Jueves 28 de enero, 7:00 p.m., Noche de Información para la Escuela Intermedia Rising 6th Grade. Esta es una oportunidad para aprender un poco sobre la filosofía de la escuela secundaria, quiénes somos en DHMS, y conocer al consejero de nuestros estudiantes que van a llegar en sexto grado.
• Viernes 29 de enero, último día del segundo trimestre
• Lunes 1 de febrero a las 6:00 p.m., Charla con los padres, en español
