Happy Spring Break!  What a week… there was a lot of energy in the building – and we could feel the excitement mounting as students left this afternoon.  They are ready for a break, and so are the staff, to be honest.

We were delighted to host rising sixth graders to DHMS on Monday and Tuesday – and so many of our students had the opportunity to shine. Our student panel and student tour guides were so wonderful answering questions, shepherding fifth graders through the building, and relaying messages of confidence and excitement to next year’s students.

The Swim Team has had two fabulous swim meets, with incredible wins each time.  There is so much sheer talent and determination on this team!  Thanks to Coaches Caslavka and Foley for their support.  The Track Team has been running nonstop for the last few weeks – in the building on rainy days – and were so disappointed that their first meet was postponed due to rain.  The commitment of each of these runners and jumpers has been inspiring though; we can’t wait to cheer them on.  Congratulations and thank you to these amazing coaches:  Coaches Schoenebeck, Westcott, and Williams!  Keep running over Spring Break, Team!

The Your Voice Matters Survey has been extended through April 24.  If you haven’t already, please complete the Your Voice Matters Survey. This data provides valuable feedback to APS and the DHMS Team.

Eighth Grade Parents – Save the Dates:  The end of the year will be upon us soon.  In partnership with our PTSA we have special events planned to celebrate our first group of eighth graders to spend three years at DHMS.  Please hold these dates:

  • Friday, June 10, 7-10 PM – Eighth Grade Promotion Party at DHMS
  • Tuesday, June 14, 8 – 6 PM – Eighth Grade Trip to Kings Dominion
  • Wednesday, June 15 – 8:30 AM – Eighth Grade Promotion Ceremony, Clap Out, and Reception

More details, permission slips, and expectations will be shared with students and sent home to families on April 22!

Covid Testing:  Arlington public Schools distributed another rapid antigen test kit per student and employee this week.  All students and staff are encouraged to use this free resource in alignment with the CDC guidelines.  I recommend that students use this before returning to school.

Have a wonderful break.
