WiFi service options

Families who need access to WiFi might explore the following options:

  • Comcast Internet Essentials will be offering free WiFi/Internet access in Arlington for new customers that qualify.
  • Xfinity WiFi hotspots across the country will be available to anyone who needs them for free—including non-Xfinity Internet subscribers.  Click here for a map of Xfinity WiFi hotspots.
    • Once at a hotspot, consumers should select the “xfinitywifi” network name in the list of available hotspot, and then launch a browser. Directions are here.
  • Verizon offers Lifeline plans for home phone service or broadband (internet) service. The broadband discount is limited to Fios internet service at a speed of 18 megabits per second or above.
  • Free Arlington County Wi-Fi hotspots are available in the parking lots at the Aurora Hills Library, Central Library, Columbia Pike Library, Charles Drew Community Center and Barcroft Sports & Fitness Center.
  • Families identified as unable to acquire internet connectivity on their own may be provided a mobile hotspot by APS.
    • Directions to connect an APS provided mobile hotspot can be found here. Connect to MiFi Eng_Sp

      • Videos from Kajeet:
      • Kajeet Resources page has guides in both English and Spanish
      • Details:
        • 500 MB per day per Kajeet – this is about an hour of video
        • Kajeets turn off at 10pm and turn back on at 6 am
        • Works like a cell phone – if you have poor cell reception, you probably will have poor hotspot connection
        • Kajeet must be plugged in to a power source to work.
