Clubs

2024-2025 club information is posted below.

ASP1: 2:45PM – 3:30PM
Most clubs meet during ASP1. Walkers and car riders will be dismissed at 3:30 and those riding the bus will report to the “NEST” until the late bus arrives.

ASP2: 2:45PM – 4:10PM
Team sports and some clubs will meet during ASP2.

* Students that participate in ASP1 and need to take the bus home, students will go to the “NEST” with DHMS staff until the bus arrives.

How to Join a Club:

Some clubs require students to sign up prior to joining–please see the club descriptions below. For other clubs, students can just show up at the meetings. There will be announcements made in the morning and through the Student Information Canvas course. More clubs will be added throughout the year. Listen to morning announcements and check the school website and social media.

Art Club

Calling all artists, there will be an art club interest meeting on Tuesday, September 24, in the Art Room (08F – in the basement) from 2:45 -3:30. Ms. Fitzpatrick will explain the sessions and how to sign up.

Chess Club

Dungeons and Dragons Club

The D&D Club is a group where we bring together diverse players to create and to adventure in a world formulated by the Dungeon Master. We hope to exude cooperation, critical thinking, and logical skills in order to traverse puzzles and realistic scenarios through the course of these games. We also provide a way for players to entertain themselves while also tackling the arts of acting and writing.

FCCLA Family, Career, Community Leaders of America

This is a national organization. We will explore the science and nutrition behind food and how it impacts our daily lives. We have students from grades, 6, 7 and 8.  We work on a wide range of projects. Some of them involve cooking, personal organization, simple interior design projects, friendships and families, and community service projects.6th, 7th, and 8th grade students are eligible to join. No experience necessary.

Intramurals

We play a variety of sports (competitive/noncompetitive) while building on sportsmanship, communication, and sport specific skills. Space is limited. Be sure to sign up! Signup sheets on the bulletin board in the main hallway.

Kidsgiving

Each month students have an opportunity to participate in 2-4 activities, with one nonprofit in the spotlight. Three kinds of activities are offered:

  1. Educational – a chance to learn about a non-profit, what it does, who it serves, and how it works
  2. Volunteering – an opportunity for a hands-on activity to help others
  3. Giving – the option to donate either directly or with in-kind gifts (e.g. books, coats, food)

Model United Nations

Do you like to argue and debate? Do you follow current events and wonder how problems get solved throughout the world? If so, the Model United Nations Club may be for you. The Model UN Club prepares for and participates in several local conferences on Saturdays in the Fall and Spring. We research and represent countries on current issues and use Parliamentary Procedure to work through a structured debate. If you like geography, history, and current events and are up for the challenge of working collaboratively, come check out the Model UN Club.

Newspaper Club

Do you enjoy writing, photography, graphic design, or drawing? Are you interested in producing a monthly newspaper about our school and community? Well then you should join the Phoenix Times Newspaper Club!

2-3 Thursdays each month until 3:30.

Recipes for Success

Recipes for Success is an After-school Cooking Program. It’s designed for students who want to work together with other students to learn cooking skills, to understand the basics of healthful eating and to try new foods. Each week will feature different recipes and cooking techniques. Throughout the course of the year, students will learn how to read and follow recipes, sharpen their knife skills, and cook delicious and nutritious foods.

We will meet after school on Wednesdays from 2:45 – 4:10, beginning October 2 and continuing through the end of the school year, in Room 141. It is expected that students will regularly attend each week to build upon their cooking skills.

Class size will be limited to 12 students. Sign up using the link posted in the Student Information Canvas course.

TAB Book Club

TAB is a lunchtime book club that is open to all students. TAB usually meets twice a month with the DHMS librarian and a librarian from our local branch library. No sign ups are necessary.

Volleyball Club

Volleyball Club can help students learn and play volleyball, and can also help them develop other skills:

  • Skill development: Volleyball Club can help players improve their volleyball skills, such as passing, setting, blocking, hitting, serving, and defense.
  • Teamwork: Volleyball Club can help players develop teamwork, discipline, and leadership.
