About Our Principal

Octavia Knigge

Ms. Octavia Knigge is an experienced educational leader with more than 20 years in public education, including over a decade of school-based administrative experience. She is committed to fostering a positive, inclusive school culture where every student is challenged, supported, and empowered to succeed. Throughout her career, she has demonstrated a strong record of improving instructional practice, strengthening school systems, and advancing student achievement through collaborative, data-informed leadership.

Before joining Arlington Public Schools, Ms. Knigge served in Virginia Beach City Public Schools as an Assistant Principal and School Improvement Specialist. In these roles, she led school improvement initiatives, supported accreditation efforts, developed intervention systems, and partnered with educators to enhance teaching and learning through data-driven decision-making.

Earlier in her career, Ms. Knigge was a Business Education teacher and AVID Coordinator, where she inspired students through technology integration, college and career readiness, and expanded access to rigorous academic opportunities.

Ms. Knigge earned a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from Regent University and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems from Virginia State University. In recognition of her dedication to students, staff, and school communities, she was honored as the 2025 Arlington Public Schools Assistant Principal of the Year.

Originally from Virginia Beach, Virginia, Ms. Knigge is excited to serve the Dorothy Hamm Middle School community. Outside of school, she enjoys traveling, spending quality time with family and friends, and creating meaningful experiences with those she loves. She believes that strong relationships are the foundation of a thriving school community and looks forward to partnering with students, families, and staff to make every school year a successful one.
