Summer Math Review

Here are 3 ways to support your child over the summer to strengthen their current math skills, prevent summer slide, and to compete with other students for prizes while doing it. Clever may not be available at a certain time this summer, so please ensure your child’s math teacher gives your child his/her IXL username and password BEFORE the end of the year.

  1. Please watch this video to see HOW to access the 2016 SOL math standards that were used on your child’s May 2024 SOL assessments.  You can use the student by detail question report that will appear in ParentVUE to match up the standards your child can watch a video on and do more practice on.  An IXL smart score of 80% shows mastery.  There is no need to go to 100%.
  2. APS Summer Math Packets – complete and hand into your math teacher for next year.
  3. Your child’s math teacher will sign you up by 6.6.24 for an IXL competition to gain knowledge and win prizes (Ipad or $330 VISA gift card).  You can read more about the details here and it starts on June 10th – August 4th.  Further questions can be emailed to IXL at contests@ixl.com.
  4. Zearn Summer Intensive Series:
    • Intro student/parent video to watch re:  Zearn
    • 4-6 week program for all rising 6th-9th graders to prepare students to enter the 24-25 academic year with strong foundational math skills
    • Students can access Zearn through Clever (My Access)
    • Attached document includes tips on how to help your child and a goal sheet.
    • Any questions can be directed to:  caroline.mcaleer@apsva.us.
